Your Journey: How To Get Where You Want To Go

Are you on the path that you want to be on? If not, what if you could be? What if it could even be easy? Life is busy, complicated—hard! How can it be easy?

That’s the problem, we make life more complicated than it needs to be. Make it simple. Live and be present in each moment. You are most efficient when you focus entirely on the task at hand. Thinking about what else you have to do, worrying about other things and trying to do everything at once just leads to overwhelm.

Here are a few steps that can help you get where you want to go:

  • Get clear on your goals / desires / how you want your life to be.
  • Visualize and FEEL what it would be like, as if you’re already living it.
  • Make a plan – what action will you take?
  • Make it happen one step at a time – pick one thing and start.
  • Don’t worry about knowing how everything will work out, that’s God’s job.

Make it easy: get clear, immerse yourself in visualization, plan, take action, let go of how you expect it to work out and be open to new opportunities! The decisions we make and the actions we take each day create our tomorrows.

If you need more help to make this easy, try the helpful tools that Vinita Hampton Wright shares in her book, Simple Acts of Moving Forward: 60 Suggestions for Getting Unstuck. You can choose to do all of the suggestions, or just turn to the topics that you need help with. The majority of the suggestions can be done immediately and will help you get unstuck.

From the introduction:

Getting Unstuck, Moving Forward, Feeling Better:

“Sometimes you feel that you will never get ahead or even get beyond the spot you’re in right now.”

“It won’t take longer than five minutes to read any one suggestion in this book. And in many cases, it won’t take longer than a few minutes to actually take the step.”

From the epilogue:

“I hope that practicing some of the little acts in this book will help you discover the hidden parts of you that are so amazing and so good for the world.”

“Take that step. Lean forward into your future. Enjoy the journey!”

Let Your True Light Shine—Be Yourself

Let your true light shine—be yourself. Are you living a life you love? Do you know what a life you love would look like? Do you feel like you need something else in life, but you’re not sure what? To find your purpose, your true passion, you need to get to know yourself. Take time to realize who you truly are.

Here are some steps to help you with your self-discovery:

  • Love and approve of yourself exactly as you are right now. You are enough.
  • Be gentle and forgiving with yourself; be open to new ideas.
  • Learn techniques to recognize and release limiting beliefs and negative thinking.
  • Respect your own judgment and decisions. Stop seeking approval from others.
  • Make a list of things that you are grateful for in your life and things that you appreciate about yourself.
  • Take a break from your regular routine. Allow yourself some downtime, without any guilt.
  • Notice what makes you happy, excited, passionate and fulfilled.
  • What makes time stand still or fly by for you?
  • What do you enjoy that completely captures your attention?

When you allow yourself to be who you are, you live in a state of love toward yourself and others. Enjoy getting to know yourself; you are special.

If you would like to live a more authentic life, read The Gifts of Imperfection: Let Go of Who You Think You’re Supposed to Be and Embrace Who You Are – YOUR GUIDE TO A WHOLEHEARTED LIFE, by Brene Brown, Ph.D., L.M.S.W.

From the Introduction: “Wholehearted living is about engaging in our lives from a place of worthiness. It means cultivating the courage, compassion, and connection to wake up in the morning and think, NO matter what gets done and how much is left undone, I am enough.”

If you need to let go of what people think, let go of perfectionism, let go of comparison, let go of anxiety, let go of self-doubt and stop doing what you’re “supposed to” do, this book will help, and it covers so much more.

“Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.” – Proverbs 12:25 (NLT)

Speak encouraging words today, whether it’s to yourself or to someone else; it goes a long way in destroying worry.

When you feel good about yourself, when you feel encouraged, the worry loses its power.

You Are Not Defined By What You Do

Baby Robin

You are not defined by what you do. You are not defined by your circumstances.

You do not need to prove yourself to anyone.

You are valuable. You are worthy. You are special being you.

Pebbles Sleeping

When your days get full, but there’s still so much more to be done, what can you do?

Steal extra time from your sleeping hours? Rush around a little faster, multi-multi-task? Or… sleep more?

It may sound counterproductive to sleep more, giving you less time in the day to get things done, but depriving yourself of sleep doesn’t make life easier.

Stealing sleep hours to get more done is likely to backfire; aside from feeling cranky and miserable, lack of sleep adversely affects your health and your productivity—not to mention your level of happiness.

According to a study by researchers at the University of Chicago, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, not getting enough sleep affects weight loss. The group that slept 8.5 hours lost the most body fat; the group that slept 5.5 hours lost more fat-free body mass (mostly muscle).

Are you getting 8.5 hours of sleep a night? Okay, stop laughing now. (Actually, a really good laugh is also good for your health—so go on, laugh all you want, but read on…)

Our bodies are amazing. When your alarm clock is trying to wake you up and your body is screaming “NO!” – listen. Your body is beautiful and knows what it needs to function at its best. Listen to the messages your body gives you. Treat your body lovingly.

Getting enough sleep will increase your productivity, helping you to accomplish more in less time. You’ll feel better, think more clearly, be more focused, have more energy, and make better choices.

You deserve to get a good sleep every night; make it a priority.

Sleep Matters!

The Blue Jay Connection

I filled up my bird feeders yesterday and today I did a photo shoot.

As I waited patiently for the shots I wanted, I worked on a writing challenge. I was challenged to focus, plan, set goals, develop good writing habits, and of course—write.

My work spread out before me, my camera at the ready, it was time for some serious work and some serious waiting…

I was concentrating on my writing when suddenly a Blue Jay flew right over my head to the window ledge behind me. I lifted my camera to take his picture and he tilted his head to the side and looked at me. I looked at him and it was as if time stopped for a few seconds; deep in my soul, I felt an amazing connection to nature – The Blue Jay Connection – and I realized that he was observing me observing him!

Blue Jay

While waiting for the Blue Jay another visitor stopped by:
